You can find my latest comics over at Patreon and Ko-fi, weeks (months now!) before they are published here and on social media. Thank you for supporting my work!
I initially saw this comic reposted on Discord. Curious, I looked it up.
I have to ask: what exactly *is* happening on this strip? Does it signify the friends the hero sacrificed along the way? Or something else? I am very curious, please tell us.
Unbeknownst to him, his friends (who he met during his quest) were the ghosts of fallen adventurers who needed someone to find their remains so they could finally rest. I’ve read interpretations that theorize he killed them, but I don’t think there’s anything in the comic to indicate this -I think it’s sad and haunting enough as it is. More than anything, it’s a twist on that old trite saying.
Sad reveal
OK, honestly, what kind of monster does something like this to just really mess up some poor person’s mind???

This got somber very quickly.
Still, it did remind me of this gag from the somewhat risqué comic Oglaf…

Oh, oh jeez that’s the most melancholy ending to a story ever. I love it.
And now he has to climb in the chest with the note to wait for the next hero to arrive… and so the cycle continues
