Port Sherry available on Cara now too
I don’t do many references but if y’all don’t get this one I’m gonna be very cross with you! (nah, not really)
There used to be this tacit understanding between social media platforms and artists, that we were willing to provide them with free content in exchange for visibility. It’s been more than a few years now that they haven’t been fulfilling their end of the deal, and hey: it’s their sites, they can do whatever they want with them. But since they’re deliberately hiding us there’s very little incentive to stay on them… and now that they’re exploiting our work for their own benefit, *not* sharing our art online is actually the least harmful proposition!
I am not very hopeful that Cara is the answer, but I am willing to support it as a last measure before, truly, packing it up and only post my comics on my website, Patreon and Ko-fi. It’s not the readers who are at fault here: there are tons of readers out there, hungry for great art and lots of wonderful artists, new and old, wanting to share their work with them. It’s the platforms. We’re getting bled dry out there.
The whole “we’ll use your photos and phot captions to train our AI” is creepy for individuals, posting pictures of their family, their children – and maybe IP theft, for Artists? I’ve disliked Meta for a long time, hopefully more people will start leaving them!
It’s not a total lack of visibility. I do see your stuff of Facebook sometimes, usually posted on someone else’s page or group, sometimes with the credit cut off the bottom, and every now and then attributed to the wrong artist.
But it’s there.
… Hooray for social media, I guess?
*GIGANTIC SIGH*
As long as your rss feed stays active, you do what you feel is best.
Bless you, I wish more people used the RSS feed. What do you use it with?
I’m not Mark, but use your RSS feed. I’m using it with nextcloud news.
I see, thank you. I know there are options (I used The Old Reader for a while) but I always felt losing Google Reader was a blow to RSS adoption.
Innoreader
Yay for RSS!
I’m subscribed to it on Inoreader. It used to be Google Reader, before they axed it, and then another one. I keep having to migrate.
RSS user here too!
I’m using Seamonkey. Yes, that makes me a horrible weirdo.
RSS User here!
I’m using Feedly
Well it’s not like I even use Facebook or any social media sites, so it doesn’t change anything for me. I’ll gladly continue reading your comics here in your website, thank you.
I admit I liked RSS but ever after the application I used back then stopped working I didn’t find an adequate replacement and mostly stopped using them. A bit of Feedly but not enough to hook me back.
Have you ever considered publishing on webtoons or tapas or something like that?
I was on Webtoon earlier this year but I found some of their practices too predatory, so I stopped posting there.
RSS via Feedly for me, too. And just finished going thru your entire archive! So much goodness. 😄
Excellent!
