You’re wrong. The lesson of Up was “someone is going to screw you out of everything you ever loved or believed in, and you should just give up because if you fight back it will destroy you.”
Yeah… there’s really no way to spin it that it isn’t just a very depressing film.
I used to say in the past that most animated movies boiled down to the classic message of “be yourself”, over and over again. Now that they are pushing this odd “learn to cope with loss/ learn to let go” trend, I long for those days.
To be fair, all Ralph ever really strived for was recognition of his work. And in the end, he got that.
The lesson of Up was “your childhood heros always turn out to be assholes”.
Weird how UP is kind of tool to somehow ease you into realizing everything you dreamed and held in high esteem when you were younger could turn out to be smoke and mirrors. A measure to manage disappointment.
